The area’s namesake is a huge draw for families, sports enthusiasts and anyone looking for a slice of the outdoors. However, Hackney Marshes is also next to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the shopping haven that is Westfield.
Hackney Marshes is the perfect place for individuals or families looking to spend their time exploring the huge outdoor spaces of the Marshes. However, there’s also excellent amenities located at Stratford’s Westfield and transport links to connect the area with the rest of the city and Eurostar links to the continent.
Hackney Marshes was once a hotspot for merchants and bankers who took advantage of the area’s waterways and links to the city. While the heavy industry has disappeared, the area has gone through a period of recent gentrification with many high-end apartments popping up in and around Hackney Cut.

The big draw for the area is undoubtedly the Marshes. Large parts have been preserved and are now nature reserves making them an ideal place for a family day out. If shopping is more your thing, Westfield is a short bus ride away.

Lee Valley ice centre is located just up the road from Hackney Marshes and regularly hosts skating and ice hockey events. The neighbouring Lee Valley riding centre meanwhile, has an indoor riding school and outdoor facilities, with classes regularly offered to children.
Hackney Marshes is located just north of Stratford which has become a major transport hub thanks to its use a hub during the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Trains
There are two Overground railway stations that serve the Hackney Marshes area. Homerton is on the East London line and connects the area to Stratford in the east and Dalston and Islington to the north. Lea Bridge sits on the National Rail network and connects the area to Stratford and north London.
Buses
Hackney Marshes is well connected by bus to areas including Hackney Wick, Finsbury Park, Chingford and Walthamstow.
