We have an extensive renting and buying area guide about neighbourhoods across Hackney including Victoria Park and Hackney Wick, Homerton, Hackney Marshes, Bow and Mile End.
For nearly 200 years, Victoria Park has been a destination for millions of Londoners looking for a place to walk, play and enjoy the outdoors. The park boasts stunning lakes, iconic fountains and a huge variety of facilities including kids play areas and cafes. The property surrounding this idyllic location is a mix of Victorian town houses, apartments and schoolhouse conversions.
Located between Victoria Park, Hackney Marsh and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Wick was originally home to the silk and synthetic fabric making industry. More recently however, the area has been transformed into a hub for young creatives taking advantage of the spectacular collection of bars, restaurants and village feel.
Homerton has long had a rich musical history that has seen the likes of Marc Bolan, the White Stripes and Pete Doherty all spend time in the borough. At the borough’s heart is the high street that provides a good range of independent shops and restaurants as well as the beautiful Sutton House a Grade II listed tudor building and Hackney’s oldest house.
The beautiful marshlands that the area takes its name from is dominated by the River Lea, which has a cycle and walking path that attracts thousands of people every weekend. With the Olympic Park to the south it’s a dream destination for recreation and sport, not to mention excellent shopping facilities at Westfield.
Situated between Canary Wharf and the City, Mile End has attracted musicians, film directors and more recently its fair share of young professionals looking to take advantage of the area’s prime location in East London. With beautiful Victorian squares and terraces dominating the area’s housing stock, it’s an area that’s become very popular in recent years.
Thanks to its proximity to the Olympic Park in nearby Stratford and the Westfield shopping centre, Bow has seen an explosion in new apartment buildings and refurbishments of the traditional Victorian houses that fill the area. Historic Roman Road flows from one side of the borough to the other with a mix of outdoor markets, vintage shops and independent retailers.
